A 26-year-old man admitted he was going to supply a friend with cannabis when he was stopped by police.

Steven Robert Bignall, of Westerdale Road, Grantham, admitted possessing one gram of cannabis with intent to supply on September 15, last year.

Prosecuting, Nick Todd said they stopped Bignall because of the manner of his driving. He was searched and a bag of cannabis was found. He admitted he paid £10 for it and was going to give it to a friend.

Rob Arthur, defending, said: “Because of his honesty this has led him to being charged with a more signifanct offence than if he had been silent.”

Mr Arthur said Bignall had bought the cannabis for £10 and had admitted to police that his friend had asked him to get it. Bignall owed his friend £10 and so agreed to do it.

Magistrates fined Bignall £135 and ordered him to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £20.
