Magistrates heard how after finding the opportunity of some work a disqualified driver decided to take a chance, but then was caught in Grantham.

Gheorghe Patriche, 25, of Southwark Street, Nottingham, pleaded guilty to two charges of driving whilst disqualified and without insurance.

Marie Stace, prosecuting, outlined how on May 3 at about 1.20am police officers forced a BMW 525 to stop on Manthorpe Road having identified the driver as being disqualified and not having insurance.

Patriche co-operated with the police and admitted that from May 30 last year he had been disqualified for 12 months, and therefore was only 17 days away from being allowed to drive again.

Rob Arthur, defending, told the court how Patriche had been the sole occupant of the car, and usually relied on a friend to drive him.

However on the date in question his friend had just returned from France and was too tired to drive, while Patriche had the opportunity for some work and for this reason ‘took a chance’ and drove 17 days prior to the end of his disqualification.

Magistrates adjourned the case until June 23 so that a pre-sentence report on Patriche could be prepared by the probation service.
