olice say they arrested a man they suspected of being on drugs because he was “gurning and facially twitching”.
James Arthur Roberts, 23, of Bridge End Road, Grantham, admitted possessing 0.11g of a Class B drug on September 1 when he appeared before Grantham magistrates.
Prosecuting, Shelley Wilson told the court that Roberts was in Market Place, Grantham, at 3am when police officers noticed he was displaying “facial behaviour” which suggested he was on drugs. He was “gurning” and “facially twitching” and when police searched him they found two clear bags in his pocket, one containing an off-white powder which was later found to be MCAT. He told the officers he had bought it earlier that night for £10 in a pub and intended to use it himself. He said he had been a user before but not recently.
Roberts, who was not represented, said in court: “It was a stupid mistake. I am not doing it regularly.”
Magistrates fined him £180 and ordered him to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £20. They ordered the forfeiture and destruction of the drug.
