A man who stole chocolates from a petrol station was going through a difficult time in his life, Grantham magistrates heard.
Carl Moore, 31, of Ivatt Court, Grantham, pleaded guilty to stealing the chocolates, worth £24.08, from the Brobot station, Manthorpe Road, Grantham, on November 13.
Prosecutor Tracey Ross said it was a very simple theft which happened at 8.30pm when Moore walked in, selected the chocolates and walked out again. He was caught on CCTV and later arrested.
Rob Arthur, defending, told the court that it had been a very difficult time in Moore’s life. He had been homeless and was sofa surfing. He had simply taken the chocolates to eat.
Since the offence Moore had served two prison sentences in December and January. Magistrates handed him a conditional discharge for six months. They ordered him to pay compensation of £24.08 and a victim surcharge of £15, but no costs.
