Grantham dad ‘forgot’ to pay for beer
A CHANGE in medication led to a dad leaving a Grantham supermarket without paying for his beer, a court heard.
Robert Cook, 31, of Avenue Road, Grantham, admitted leaving Asda at around 6.30pm on July 17 with a £1.55 bottle of beer down his trousers.
He was seen on CCTV taking the bottle and leaving the store. it was recovered later and he was arrested.
Rory Macmillan, defending, said Cook was on a variety of medication for anxiety and depression, as well as methadone.
He said Cook was doing well on a community order, which was imposed four days before he stole the beer.
He said: “He recently changed medication and felt a bit all over the place. He had the money. He thought he had paid for the beer, but hadn’t.”
Cook was fined £50 and ordered to pay £15 victim surcharge. The court allowed his community order to continue.
