A Grantham estate agent says there is a desperate shortage of housing in the area now that the property market is picking up.
The new haart Property Index for Grantham shows buyers are returning to the market and last month the branch’s ratio of buyers registered to properties for sale was 5:1. The number of first time buyers registered was 71% higher than in January 2013.
Tracey Nicholls, haart of Grantham branch manager, said: “Our town is very commutable by rail and road and the Government’s Help to Buy scheme has helped to restore confidence in the market.”
Figures come from haart’s own database compiled from management reports from every branch. The ratio of buyers to properties for sale is based on the number of people who have registered as looking to buy a property during the past six months and are still on the books.
In Grantham, according to Land Registry data, the average price of a semi-detached home increased 5.4% last year to £128,431 (2013 versus 2012).
