Two Grantham Guide leaders attended a Buckingham Palace garden party on Tuesday.
Bex Mezzo and Leigh Dingle were invited to the party in London because between them they have led groups for more than 50 years.
Bex said it was a day they shall never forget. She said: “A dash across London in a very fast taxi was all part of the experience. We went in through a side gate and through the central arch, across the courtyard in the centre of Buckingham Palace and through the Palace to the rear gardens where we awaited the Royal Family.
“At 4pm the Royal Family came out to the garden, the national anthem played and the rain poured. The Queen with yellow hat, coat and back bag and shoes just put her umbrella up and began greeting her guests. Tea was served after the walkabout - cucumber and mint sandwiches, cream cheese and smoked salmon, mini scones with fresh cream and blackcurrents and chocolate squares with royal crests on them.
“We met people from all over the world and had a fabulous time. We would like to thank the Lord Lieutenant for putting our names forward to be part of this once in a lifetime occasion. We will remember it for years to come.”
