The accolade for People Development at the Grantham Journal’s Business Awards went to multi-national US firm Parker Hannifin, who have a UK base at Londonthorpe Road in Grantham.
Operations manager Dave Taylor told the Journal how Parker Hannifin spends time developing its individual employees in spite of the huge scale of the company, as well as its future plans.
What did it mean to win?
We were very pleased to receive the award, it means a lot to our employees to get recognition both locally and within our own company. News travels fast and we received positive feedback from both our European and US headquarters as a result. We are especially proud that the daughter of one of our employees nominated us for the award. The plaque has pride of place in our reception.
How does Parker Hannifin develop its people?
We believe that by developing and empowering our employees both individually and also within a team-based culture they can become more engaged in the business and as a result help identify and implement improvements that ensure we remain competitive in the markets we serve. We are privileged to have a highly skilled and committed workforce which provides a strong foundation for future growth and success.

What made Parker Hannifin decide to have a base in Grantham ?
We’ve been in existence on this Grantham site since 1947, locally known as Kontak’s. Parker acquired the facility and its products back in 2000 with the acquisition of Commercial Intertech Corp. It has continued to develop and invest in improving the business ever since. As a direct result of those improvements the location has recently been nominated as the European manufacturing site for a new global VP120 hydraulic control valve which has significant growth potential. We are currently building a new state-of-the-art production line with an investment in excess of a million pounds. We currently employ more than 80 local people in the business.
