Grantham Journal letter: A tribute to Phillip Oldfield
It was with deep regret that I read of the death of Phillip Oldfield, LCC Highways Officer.
I spoke to him regularly on the phone during the building of the Waterfront flats on Welham Street and all the problems they caused for local residents. He was always friendly and sympathetic to the problems and nearly always managed to solve them.
Subsequently, when I phoned his department regarding other local Highway problems, he would take the trouble to call me back and often visit the site of the latest problem and then let me know that the problem was about to be sorted. It was always a pleasure to speak to him and I will definitely miss his hands-on attitude and local knowledge.
