Grantham Journal letter: I say a big NO to a Tesco Express

I HAVE enjoyed drinking in the Cherry Tree on and off for 40 years, especially when I was home on leave from the RN.

Having recently returned to Grantham I was beginning to enjoy becoming a regular there again. I agree that a short while ago it wasn’t the best place to be, but landlady Pat King was turning that round and it was fast becoming a nice family-friendly pub.

We don’t need a Tesco Express store up this end of town, we have an industrial park, a primary school and local shops that are more than adequate, we certainly wouldn’t welcome more heavy goods vehicles on these roads.

As for having two more pubs up this end, we don’t, not what I would call local, they are quite a considerable walking distance, especially for the older punter.

So I say a big NO to a Tesco Express. Reinstate the Cherry Tree as a much-needed local, family-friendly pub.
