Grantham MP proposes cuts to pensioner benefits

Nick Boles Grantham MP

Nick Boles Grantham MP

MP Nick Boles believes well-off pensioners should not receive benefits such as free bus passes and a winter fuel allowance.

The Grantham MP will make his point at an event today (Tuesday) organised by the Resolution Foundation think-tank, at which he will make a speech.

In his speech, he will say such benefits currently granted to the elderly should be means-tested after the next general election, in 2015. Other benefits which could be affected are free prescriptions and TV licences.

The proposed cuts would, he says, create further savings from the welfare budget.
