A PUBLIC relations award was presented by Rotary International Britain and Ireland to Grantham rotarian Paul Wilson at a conference last weekend.

The Rotary Club of Grantham was selected for the award out of 1800 clubs in recognition of Paul’s social media campaign for the Rotary Global Swimarathon, which was thought up by fellow rotarian Roger Graves.

Paul said: “It’s wonderful to see how the magic of Grantham Swimarathon has been shared on a global stage. The ongoing legacy of the event is already quite extraordinary, with hundreds more clubs already making plans for the next global event on February 23, 2013. In addition, our annual Grantham Swimarathon which has raised over £560,000 for local charities will be back between February 1 and 3, 2013.”

Rotary Global Swimarathon is also one of two shortlisted charities, the other being Macmillan Cancer Support World’s biggest Coffee Morning for a UK Fund-raising national award for best the Facebook charity campaign. The results of the public online vote which can be accessed here http://www.digitalfundraisingawards.co.uk/facebookcategory will be announced at a special ceremony in London on October 9.
