Grantham thief told to pay £328 in compensation to victims
A MAN who admitted eight thefts and a burglary was put on a community order by Grantham magistrates on Monday.
Martin Moore, 28, of Dixon Place, Grantham, stole a mobile phone from a project worker’s handbag, which was in an office in Barrowby Road, Grantham, on July 22.
On July 26 he asked to borrow a friend’s phone, and, when his friend turned away, he ran off with it.
He stole a mobile phone from his uncle’s ex-partner after she agreed to meet him for a drink. She left her phone on the table for a few seconds and when she returned Moore and the phone were gone.
He visited his cousin’s house on March 24 and stole her Nintendo DSI. He then sold it to a shop in Westgate.
CCTV operators caught him stealing electrical items and meat from Sainsbury’s on August 30 and August 24 respectively.
He walked out of TK Maxx with sunglasses worth £50 and took £50 worth of computer games from Asda.
Moore also admitted stealing leather boots worth £40 from the British Heart Foundation charity shop in Grantham High Street.
Stuart Wild, defending, said: “He offends to feed his drugs habit. At the date of the offences he lapsed but he’s now not used drugs for a period in excess of two-and-a-half weeks.”
Moore, who last week started working for Environcom, was given a community order with 12 months supervision and a six month drug rehabilitation order. He was also ordered to pay compensation totalling £328 to all those involved.
Chairman of the magistrates Jane Tidswell said they were very close to sending Moore to prison.
She said: “What a mess. Thank goodness you’re going to get to work to earn some money.”
