A sign of the improvements being made at Wyndham Park is now proudly fluttering in the breeze for all to see.

Wyndham Park was awarded a Green Flag Award earlier this summer and on Friday (October 19) a special unveiling ceremony was held.

John Knowles of Wyndham Park Forum said: “This is a very proud moment for all of us involved in Wyndham Park.”

However, Green Flag status is just the beginning, with plans in the pipeline that could transform the park in the coming years.

Possible improvements include a vastly improved paddling pool and better sports facilities, as well as refurbishments to the shelter, memorial archway and the ticket office.

Improving Wyndham Park will also help maintain the Green Flag status which needs to be earned every year.

Mr Knowles said: “It means we will have to do better, otherwise we will lose it and that would be very embarrassing.”

Steve Frisby, grounds maintenance co-ordinator for SKDC. said: “From the council’s point of view we are really proud. This is the first Green Flag park in South Kesteven so it really is a step in the right direction.”

It is hoped funding will be secured and the improvements made in time for the celebrations to mark 100 years since the start of the Second World War.

The application process for the next Green Flag Award starts on October 31, with the deadline being January 31, 2013.
