Mayor Ian Selby has revealed that Grantham will be getting a town crier, after he noticed the absence of this traditional figure within the community.
On Thursday at an event celebrating Grantham Town FC’s 140th year, the crier’s robes, in the team’s colours, were unveiled.
Mayor Selby said: “I hope the town will embrace this idea, not only to enhance a local tradition but also to help promote our football club, local businesses and charities. I am absolutely delighted with the end product and I am so much looking forward to seeing it in action. May I express sincere thanks to Mrs Denise DeBank-Cowell, and also to Busy B’s Bridal’s on Watergate for the use of their facilites.”
However the identity of the chosen town crier remains a secret, set to be announced – or cried – in the coming weeks.
