The Church of the Ascension Ladies Fellowship raised £320 in aid of Hearing Dogs for Deaf People.

Area fund-raiser and speaker for the charity Denise Taylor was invited along with John Mallandine and his hearing dog Poppy to collect the cheque at the church group’s monthly meeting.

They in turn presented the ladies with a special certificate thanking them for their continued support, whose previous fund-raising efforts have included tombolas, coffee mornings and bring-and-buys.

As well as the cheque, the members handed Denise two large boxes of used postage stamps, ink jet cartridges, old mobile phones and postcards.

Denise said: “We can turn the money raised from these into hearing dogs that will transform a deaf person’s life. It is something everyone can be involved with – school children and other young people’s groups, businesses, clubs and individuals.”

The charity has local drop off points for such items including at Colsterworth Post Office, but is appealing for more businesses to become designated points for donations.
