A PROFESSIONAL racing car driver saved the life of his friend as he choked on a lump of KFC chicken.

Jordan Wormall has thanked his friend and work colleague Olly Allen for saving his life after almost being killed by a chicken sandwich.

The pair were working together in their shared garage off London Road when the drama started.

Jordan said: “I went to bite into it and it slipped down my throat. I thought it would come back up but it wasn’t having any of it. I could feel it lodged.

“I honestly thought it was curtains. I was really panicking. It was the scariest thing that’s ever happened to me in my life.”

Racing driver Olly Allen had to go on a first aid course to race professionally and was able to call on the life-saving skills he was taught at Silverstone to rescue his life-long friend.

Olly grabbed Jordan in the Heimlich manoeuvre but it took plenty of attempts and more than two minutes to finally free the lodged meat.

Olly said: “My first thought was ‘he’s having a laugh’ because I thought he was joking but then his colour went.

“My instant reaction was to grab him and pump him. I thought ‘if this doesn’t work he’s dead’ because there was no way an ambulance could get here in time.

“I did it eight or nine times and finally it flew out.

“I literally thought he was a goner. It’s the scariest thing that’s ever happened to me, other than crashing my race car.”

After finally getting his breath back, Jordan was able to thank Olly for what he did.

Jordan said: “I’ve given him a proper hug now. He saved my life and I want to thank him.”

Olly hopes his and Jordan’s experience will help people realise how vital first aid knowledge can be.

Olly said: “I think it shows the importance of people learning first aid. The other lads here didn’t know what to do - if it had been the other way round and it was me choking, I would be dead because nobody else knew what action to take.

“Everyone said I was as cool as a cucumber but I didn’t feel it. I’m still shaking now.”
