Kids get new play area in Dysart Park

A NEW children’s play area in Dysart Park features a novel attraction aimed at keeping the new equipment in good condition.
The new £20,000 play area will feature a graffiti wall where youngsters can express their artistic and creative side without ruining the area for younger children.
Libby Simpson of Friends of Dysart Park hopes the new graffiti wall will prove popular and discourage vandalism.
She said: “We are looking to get the graffiti board coated very soon so it is wipeable.
“The only thing we do wish is the kids use the board and don’t use their spray cans or pens on other parts of the park. If it is abused then we will have to take it away.”
The play area has been given a much needed revamp thanks to funding from a Government Playbuilder programme and a Section 106 agreement.
Libby said: “It was a last minute job to be honest.
“The council found the funding in the middle of February and it had to be furnished by the end of March so it really was a last minute job.
“It was very good that the council thought about Dysart Park and put the money into it.”
The new play area includes a trapeze swing and extra equipment in the baby park. The park was officially opened at the weekend by Grantham’s Deputy Mayor Rob Hearmon and Chairman Bob Adams.
Dale Kitchen, SKDC community leisure officer said: “It’s been amazing to see the positive response the equipment has generated. The new facilities are a great addition and we’ve already received confirmation the kit is being well used by the local children and young people.”
