Dave Kelham donated 1,000 to Grantham Hospice recently, which was accepted by Tina Dingley.

A BRICKLAYER was awarded £1,000 to donate to the charity of his choice after getting the top score on a computer game.

Dave Kelham, of Crossgill Close, Grantham, entered the competition organised by Westleigh property developers just before Christmas when he was working on one of its sites.

He said: “There were quite a few lads that were playing the game. It was just a bit of fun between us all. It was a laugh.”

Dave did not even know about the top prize for getting the top score at the game, which involved demolishing buildings.

He said: “I didn’t expect to win and never realised about the prize for the non-Westleigh employees. I was surprised when I got the e-mail through saying that I had won.”

After receiving the prize Dave set about the challenge of selecting a charity.

He said: “I wanted to give it to a smaller local charity so I decided to donate it to Grantham Hospice. I was really chuffed being able to give that money to the hospice.”

Assistant fund-raising manager at the hospice, Tina Dingley, said: “I would like to thank Dave for choosing St Barnabas Grantham Hospice to receive this fantastic amount of money. Kind gestures such as this will help us to continue to provide our services free of charge, giving help directly to those who are ill and their families and carers.”
