Kirsty Collin, 19, from Grantham.

She has NVQ2 in children’s care and development. Since leaving college she has struggled to get a job and has been out of work for just over a year.

Kirsty has secured some relief work at a nursery but is looking for something more permanent or an apprenticeship in childcare. She is often told that she is over-qualified for the positions she applies for.

Kirsty is friendly and approachable but she struggles with her confidence in interviews. Once she is in the classroom she says she is fine.

Grantham’s unemployed declare: ‘We want a job!’

As unemployment increases in Grantham at a higher rate than any other part of Lincolnshire our new Journal campaign wants to help people get back to work.
