After being diagnosed with leukaemia in 2010, Louise Willett from Long Bennington has been busy organising fundraisers for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research alongside her best friend Ellie Taylor.

As well as completing a 19 mile charity bike ride in June, the girls have organised a fundraising gala this Saturday, August 9 at Long Bennington’s playing fields and pavilion from 1pm-10pm.

At the family fun day there will be stalls, live music, a DJ, a hog roast and licensed bar serving beer and wine amongst other refreshments.

Moreover Lousie’s boyfriend Matthew Taylor - no relation to Ellie - is even undergoing a sponsored head shave on the day.

Twenty-year-old Louise whose treatment for leukaemia finished just over two years ago, said: “The bike ride was absolutely fantastic, and something I couldn’t even think of doing a few years before. I then came up with the idea to do this fundraising event and my best friend Ellie has helped with organising it.

“Anyone can just turn up on the day and we want as many people as possible to raise lots of money for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research. They need lots of support to carry out treatment trials, as patients can relapse or there may be complications. Any donations on the day, however small, will be fantastic.”

Entry is free with proceeds from the event and donations going to Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.
