Libby is crowned our first Queen of Grantham
Queen of Grantham : Libby Simpson.
WE HAVE crowned our first Queen of Grantham for the second of our series of features asking readers what they would do if they were king or queen for a day.
Money’s no object and you can do whatever you want.
Our first queen is Libby Simpson the owner of Pressgang in London Road, Grantham.
“If I was Queen of Grantham... My first priority would be resident’s parking- It’s my baby.
Especially now the council is going to start issuing parking tickets.
I’m fully in favour of traffic wardens coming to the town. They are needed because Grantham is one huge car park but local people will have nowhere to park.
Secondly if I was queen... I would get the community more involved in the town and there would be more open council meetings.
The community should be more involved with the running of the town. They should have the final say in things like car parking, parking fees and town centre development.
The third thing I would do is regenerate the town centre.
The plans have been made and they are beautiful plans. They should be put into action.
Station Approach and all around there should be redeveloped. It’s about time. Lots and lots of money has been spent on consultations and making the plans.
If I was queen... The fourth thing I would do is make sure new build houses all had solar panels and other energy efficient things when they are built.
If they were put in when they were built we wouldn’t notice the cost. If all the new houses were self sufficient it would be a hell of a boost to the town.
Next I would put a big meeting place in the town centre for the youngsters.
It would have a coffee bar, computers, pool tables and various meeting rooms so the kids could do what they wanted to do and have somewhere to go to instead of hanging around on the streets.
My final ruling if I was queen for a day is that everybody would have to come to Dysart Park on June 6 for our family day.
We have got music all day. We’ve got various craft stalls and there are even Egyptian dancers.
It should be a really good one this year and it’s free. That would be compulsory.
I don’t think I’d need to do anything selfish. I don’t want anything.
But if I was Queen of Grantham for the day I would spend it with my grandchildren in the sunshine.”
