Lorry dragged parked vehicle along in Grantham Asda car park
A lorry driver hit a parked car in Asda car park, dragging it five or six yards before driving away and failing to report the accident.
Carl Cockram, 53, of Shirley Street in Leicester, admitted failing to stop at the scene of an accident and driving without due care and attention.
Jim Clare, prosecuting, described how Cockram’s lorry was parked beside a Renault Laguna at Asda in Grantham. Cockram attempted to pull out of the space and drive away but hit the Renault “dragging it five or six yards before it eventually became detached”.
In interview, Cockram told officers he was sorry but said he had “just panicked” and drove off.
Julian Sheen, defending, took issue with Mr Clare’s assertion that the car had been dragged five or six yards, suggesting it was more likely five or six feet rather than five or six yards.
Cockram was fined £400 and ordered to pay costs of £43 and a £15 surcharge.
He also picked up seven penalty points.
