Man picked up drugs
A MAN who picked up a wrap of cannabis to avoid getting in trouble with the police was convicted of possessing the drug at Grantham Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
Dean Frazier, 47, of Melville Street, Lincoln, was in his car in Harrowby Close, Grantham, at 3.40pm on June 11 talking to someone when the police arrived.
Daniel Paulson, prosecuting, said officers saw him take something out of his sleeve, but Frazier claimed the wrap of cannabis had been thrown by his acquaintance.
Bill Fraser, defending, said: “After the police arrived the other gentleman threw the wrap of cannabis on to the floor. Frazier thought to himself that he didn’t want to get into trouble so he picked it up. The police saw him do that so it is technical possession.”
Mr Fraser said the other man admitted throwing the drugs.
Farzier was fined £70 and made to pay £15 victim surchagre and £50 towards costs.
