Man made threats over the telephone

A MAN served with an order banning him from contacting his ex-partner called her up and made threats over the phone.

Edward Pratt of Briggs Close, Wells-next-the-Sea, admitted breaching a non-molestation order by sending abusive messages to his Grantham-ex.

Jill Derby, prosecuting, told the court Pratt called his ex-partner after receiving the order at home.

Mrs Derby said: “Mr Pratt said ‘what are you playing at? I never threatened to kidnap you or burn your house down. You’ve got nothing on me’.”

Mrs Derby told the court that Pratt then threatened his ex-partner that he would “burn your solicitors down”.

Upon his arrest, Pratt, 23, made full admissions, saying he was “annoyed” at receiving the non-molestation order.

Rob Arthur, defending, said Pratt had co-operated fully with a previous order which ran from January 2011 until January 2012. Mr Arthur added that receiving the non-molestation order “caused him to get very frustrated”.

Mr Arthur added: “Since that outburst there has been no further contact.

“He is aware of the need to abide by these conditions.”

Mr Arthur said Pratt did not accept making the threatening comments but did accept he called his ex-partner “in sheer frustration”.

Pratt was fined £100 and ordered to pay costs of £40, along with a victim surcharge of £15.
