COUNCILLOR Ian Stokes is the new Mayor of Grantham following a ceremony at the South Kesteven District Council offices.
The Conservative councillor was dragged to his new position - as is the tradition at SKDC - by fellow councillors, including his son Adam Stokes.
Mayor Ian Stokes said one of his priorities will be to promote Grantham.
He added: “It it a real honour - I know everyone says that but it is.
“I know there are lots of things to do in Grantham and I think it is essential the traditions of the Mayor carry on.”
When asked if he can rely on the support of fellow councillors, Mayor Stokes said: “There are only 16 of us in the trustees and we haven’t held a meeting together yet.
“I don’t know how many will attend but I’m sure I will get plenty from other civic dignitaries elsewhere.”
As his charities for the year, the new Mayor has selected Grantham Museum, the Steeple Fund at St Wulfram’s Church and Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance.
