Visitors to the town centre have been shocked by an old sign offensive to the disabled community that has been left during renovations above a shop.

The former Scope charity shop on St Peter’s Hill is in the process of being renovated so that it can be let to a new business.

However during the refurbishment the disability charity’s previous name, ‘The Spastics Society’ has been revealed on the shop front and left.

Many of those who have seen the out-dated sign have expressed their anger, including calling it ‘disgusting’.

The letting agents have said that they were unaware of the sign and will have it removed as a matter of urgency.
