An overturned lorry has spilled 15 tons of rubbish onto the A1 northbound.

An overturned lorry has spilled 15 tons of rubbish onto the A1 northbound.

Police are warning motorists to avoid the A1 northbound near Skillington because of an overturned lorry.

Photos posted by the Lincolnshire Road Policing unit on Twitter show the lorry on its side and spilling out rubbish, with a police spokeswoman confirming that 15 tons of waste had fallen from the vehicle.

They added that the recovery and clean-up of the accident site situated between the A1’s junctions with the A606 and A151 will take a while, and so are asking drivers to avoid the area.

One lane on the northbound carriageway is currently closed and traffic queues of approximately an hour are being reported.

Normal conditions are expected to resume by 5pm.

The spokeswoman also said that the lorry was the only vehicle involved and there were no reports of any injuries.
