Patient attacked worker at mental health facility in Grantham

A clinical team leader at a Grantham mental health facility was punched repeatedly in the face by a patient.

John Carlisle, formerly of Ashley House in Beacon Lane but now giving his address as Boston Pilgrim Hospital, admitted common assault following the attack two days before Christmas.

The court heard how Carlisle, 33, had been locked out of the facility and lost his temper.

Daniel Paulson, prosecuting, said: “He waited at the door to be let in and was angry as a previous member of staff had not let him in.

“He punched him several times to the head with both fists causing scratches and headaches but no lasting injury.”

Carlisle admitted the offence in interview.

Judith Armstrong, defending, said: “On this day he drank and became quite low about his circumstances and effectively lost his temper.

“Thankfully no major injuries were caused.

“He was effectively restrained immediately, after he was tackled.”

Miss Armstrong said Carlisle had shown remorse for his actions.

She said: “But for the drink he would say this matter would not have occurred, and for that he is genuinely sorry.”

Carlisle was sentenced to a six-month conditional
discharge and ordered to pay compensation of £50 to the victim and a £15 surcharge.
