MORE than £6,000 has been raised by a team of tough seamen, including a former Grantham girl, by pulling a 70-tonne aeroplane.

Able seaman Kirsty Truesdale, 20, was joined by 29 Royal Navy colleagues in pulling the C-130 Hercules aircraft along a 1km stretch of runway.

It took the team 45 minutes to complete the challenge.

The cash raised will go to the Royal Navy Benevolent Trust, which helps servicemen and their families who are injured in the line of duty.

Former Walton Girls’ High School pupil Kirsty, who is only 5ft 3ins tall and weighs just 62kg, said: “Despite it being exhausting it was a great way to raise money for these worthwhile causes.”

Kirsty is currently deployed with the Royal Navy in the Falklands, having served for three years.
