Plant will create 150 new jobs for unemployed young

A RECYCLING plant in Grantham will create 150 new jobs in 2012.
environCom, on Spittlegate Level, already employs 200 people, a figure which CEO Sean Feeney expects will rise to 600 over the next three years.
It is hoped that the 150 new jobs will be largely taken by young and unemployed people, training them and developing skills.
In the days of environCom being based in Houghton Road, which ended in one of the town’s largest fires in September 2007, only nine of the 85 workers on the site were full-time employees. The rest, including management roles, were employed from an agency.
Now, 125 of the 200 people on site are employees, and Sean hopes to build on this for the good of the local economy.
He said: “Everybody here is proud to work here now. environCom has a bad reputation because of what it was back then before the fire, but now it’s like a different company.
“They didn’t care about the people, we do. We’ve done a complete turnaround now.”
The plant is now the UK’s biggest independent recycler of waste electrical and electronic equipment, and it leads the industry in the area of re-use.
Grantham MP Nick Boles paid a visit to the recycling plant on Friday.
He said: “environCom is an important employer in the Grantham area and the creation of 150 new jobs for our young and unemployed will massively help boost the local economy at a time when it is much needed.” Photo: 129C

Friday, March 9, 2012 at 09:26 PMThat is great news! What is happening with the Fenland Foods site though, I thought this was going to re-open in part! I am glad M&S store shut in this town as it was M&S greed that shut the plant. M&S in 1990 declared they got 90% of goods from the UK, in 2009 80% of goods for M&S came from China. Not their fault but we need to think more about where we buy stuff from. Most ready meals now come 1000 miles from eastern Europe!
