Police warn drivers following catalytic converter thefts in Grantham

Police are warning Mercedes Sprinter drivers in the Grantham area and 4x4 drivers in the Thurlby, Bourne and Market Deeping areas after a further spike in catalytic converter thefts.

Over the last four or five days cars in all of these areas have been targeted, but different criminals are stealing from different vehicles in different areas.

In Grantham the most popular targets are Mercedes Sprinter vans. Three have been hit since February 1 in Isaac Newton Way, Grantham, Harrowby Road, Grantham and Cliffe Road, Gonerby Hill Foot.

In Thurlby and the Deepings it is specifically 4x4 vehicles that are being targeted.

Toyota Hiluxs have been attacked in High Street, Thurlby and The Kippings, Thurlby and a Mitsubishi Shogun has been targeted in Thackers Way Deeping St James.

Officers are urging the public to be vigilant and to report any suspicious activity around vehicles immediately. Detailed descriptions of suspects and registration numbers of the cars they are using are particularly useful to officers in terms of tracing offenders.

Officers are also urging 4x4 owners and van owners to get their catalytic converters security marked and to display stickers on their vehicles saying this has been done. For more details go to www.lincs.police.uk
