Police found £10 worth of cannabis during raid
A RAID by police on a man’s home uncovered one bag of cannabis with an estimated worth of less than £10.
The drugs were found when police raided the home of Ky Fox in Stamford Street, Grantham.
When officers asked Fox if there was anything they needed to know he pointed them to a “small bit of weed by the side of his bed”.
Rob Arthur, defending, said Fox was co-operative with police officers throughout.
Mr Arthur said: “He effectively pointed out to them a small cannabis bag in his bedroom.
“The police valued the cannabis at £10 but Mr Fox said it was probably worth less than that.”
Mr Arthur said that Fox, 26, would have been cautioned at the police station but, after waiting for 11 hours, he was unwilling to wait any longer for the relevant officer to return to the station so asked to be bailed for a court date.
Mr Arthur said: “He decided to come to court and get the matter dealt with rather than spend any more time in custody.”
Fox was given a six-month conditional discharge with no costs.
Magistrates ordered the forfeiture and destruction of the drugs.

Friday, February 24, 2012 at 07:11 PMAll that time and money spent on dealing with someone who has less than £10 of a drug at the side of this bed, consumption of which is likely to have harmed no one... Not even himself! Yet on the same day I read that a teenage girl has been battered and bruised on New Beacon Road for her mobile phone. If the police stopped wasting their time on trivia and started patrolling the streets in an attempt to deter criminals, the world might be a better place.

Monday, February 20, 2012 at 03:51 PMSeriously? How much did this wonderfully planned sting operation cost? 11 hours in custody!?! And an appear in court! for Cannabis! What an insane waste of money! Cannabis is cleary far less harmfully than legally available alcohol. We must stop this madness, criminalising and demonising cannabis users cannot be justified, we prohibit cannabis with money from taxes from far far more harmful drugs, its absurd!

Monday, February 20, 2012 at 02:40 PMDISGUSTING. I for one would like the Grantham Journal to investigate exactly how much tax payers money it took to give this poor lad a criminal record. When did the UK become the country that terrorises it's citizens over a £10 bag of weed. there are 4-6 mil cannabis users in the UK and we're gonna be voting soon. It would be wise for the politicians and press to wake up and take notice of us.

Monday, February 20, 2012 at 10:37 AMWhat a ridiculous waste of policecourt time and taxpayer's money. The whole point of law enforcement is to reduce harm. This chap was causing no harm to anyone, not even himself. Police time should be spent reducing harmful crime, the type of crime that has actual victims. This sort of activity is just easy brownie points for the police to boost their crimes solved stats. The government encourage this sort of nonsensical activity though because they need to protect the profits of big pharma. While this poor chap was getting busted GWP pharmaceuticals are happily cultivating 60,000 high strength cannnabis plants on a science park in kent (approx 30 tons a year). They extract ALL the ingredients of this high strength cannabis and sell it at huge profit. because the government have endorsed it as 'safe and effective'. We can't do the same because the home office deem it dangerous. Utter protectionist hypocrisy.

Monday, February 20, 2012 at 09:44 AMWhat the heck are police doing wasting the time and money from the public purse to pursue this poor chap through the courts for less than a tenners worth? What will happen is the judge will either discharge him or give him an extremely light penalty. Will the police please use their publicly funded time to do something worthwhile, like stopping children getting raped.

Monday, February 20, 2012 at 08:49 AMEnd the prohibition of cannabis. Minimise all health and social harms. Permit the use of one of the safest and most effective medicines known to man. Pull the rug from under organised crime. Boost the UK economy by up to £9.3 billion per annum.
