Save the Spire appeal begins this weekend at St Wulfram’s
The Save the Spire campaign will be launched on Saturday.
A CAMPAIGN aimed at repairing the St Wulfram’s spire will be launched tomorrow (Saturday) at the church.
St Wulfram’s church needs an estimated £600,000 to repair the church spire and is looking to raise money to pay the bill through grants and donations from within the community.
At noon tomorrow a banner will be unfurled from the top of the tower, the bells will ring and the Rector Canon Christopher Andrews will announce the launch of the campaign.
Canon Andrews said: “We want everyone to feel like it’s something we can enjoy.
“It’s going to be hard work but it can also bring the town together in lots of different ways over the next two years.”
After the launch people will get the chance to find out more about the spire work as church architect, Graham Cook, will explain the problem with the spire and how it can be repaired.
Other events tomorrow will include a balloon race, tower tours and performances by a puppet theatre for children.
The church is hoping some of those who attend may well come up with their own fund-raising ideas.
Canon Andrews said: “What we want really from our own congregation and people in the town is on-going support over these two years.
“Hopefully, people will come forward with their own fund-raising ideas too.”
The full day’s activities will run from 10am until 4pm.
