School pays tribute to a ‘popular and happy boy’
A BOY who drowned with his grandmother in a lake near Castle Bytham last week has been described as a “popular and happy” child by his school headteacher.
Amanda Rogers, headteacher at Ketton Primary School in Rutland released a statement today following the death of six-year-old Laurence Mills.
Mrs Rogers said: “The staff and governors of Ketton C of E Primary School wish to extend their heartfelt thoughts and prayers to Laurie’s family.
“Laurie was a popular, happy and vibrant member of our school community.
“We shall all miss him so much.
“We will do all in our power to support the family and all those who are so shocked, distressed and grieving.”
The school held special assemblies this morning to give pupils and staff “time for reflection and prayers”.
An area has been set aside at the front of the playground for floral tributes.
Mrs Rogers said staff at the school will be offering support to children on an individual basis and there will be extra help from a bereavement specialist.
