Siblings’ spat ended in cuts and bruises

A SPAT between a brother and sister turned physical and left the sister with bruises and cuts to her face, a court heard.

Magistrates in Grantham heard on Wednesday how 41-year-old Gary Lockwood turned violent in a disagreement over Lockwood living at their mother’s home in Manchester Way, Grantham.

The court was told how unemployed Lockwood had lived in at the house for six years and it was “putting a strain on their mother”.

Upon his sister saying this, Lockwood became angry, said Jill Derby, prosecuting.

She added: “He started to become aggresive with her. They were in the kitchen talking and Gary started to make threats towards her, telling her to shut up and he was going to effing kill her. He was holding a dinner plate and she felt very threatened by that.”

After their mother intervened, Lockwood calmed down briefly, until his sister refused to accept his apology.

Mrs Derby said: “This aggravated him and he made threats saying he was going to kill her. Gary started to punch her towards her head two or three times. He put his thumb in her right eye. She said it was very painful and asked him to stop.

“She felt pain to her neck as he got hold of her and scratched her on the neck causing more pain.”

The siblings’ mother managed to free her daughter, who then went to a neighbour’s home in shock to call the police.

Representing himself, Lockwood, a former drug addict, said: “It was a brother-sister argument that got out of all proportion. I’m very embarrassed and sorry about beating her.”

The case was adjourned until September 15 while a pre-sentence report is compiled. A condition of having no contact with his sister was lifted.
