Solicitor appears in Grantham court charged with fraud and money laundering
A SOLICITOR who was based in Grantham appeared in court this morning (Wednesday) charged with 19 offences of theft and money laundering.
Jacquelina Olivia Laverick - a former partner at Chatterton’s Solicitors, practicing as Jacqui Johns - appeared at Grantham Magistrates’ Court alongside four others charged with related money laundering offences.
They were husband Steven Laverick, 34, of Lodge Way, Grantham, Laurence Bell, 57, of Ninth Avenue, Mansfield, Robert Johns, 56, of Bell Lodge, Wyberton, and Julie Lake, 38, of Ridley Drive, Middlesbrough.
No pleas were entered. The defendants were committed to Lincoln Crown Court, where they will appear on October 22.
Laverick, of Lodge Way, Grantham, was based at the company’s Grantham office, where she headed the wills and probate department.
The court appearances follow an investigation by Lincolnshire Police.
A spokesman for the force said: “Chatterton’s staff have assisted officers from the Lincolnshire Police economic crime unit throughout their investigations and clients should be reassured that Chattertons’ insurers have covered all losses incurred.”
