The Rector of Grantham says he will fly the flag of St George in support of England during the World Cup.
Father Stuart Cradduck says the flag will be flown this week from a flagpole outside the church or from the scaffolding on the tower where work is being done on the spire.
Fr Stuart admits it is “against church protocol” but said it was important for the church as an institution to show its support.
He said: “It shows the human side of things. I want to break new ground at St Wulfram’s and I think it is the people who make this place not the building. This will be an outward sign of the community celebrating.”
Fr Stuart said the flag will remain flying as long as England stay in the competition.
England play their first game on Saturday against Italy at 11pm UK time. The game will be shown on a big screen as part of Party in the Park in Wyndham Park.
