A former cancer patient from Ropsley is backing a new campaign - Stand Up To Cancer - to help raise money to fund research into the disease.

Mum-of-two Charlotte Reeves, 40, from High Street, Ropsley, was diagnosed with breast cancer in June 2011.

She said: “I know what fantastic work Cancer Research UK does. I wanted to help out the charity by raising awareness of them and what they do.”

“Of course being diagnosed with cancer is a scary experience, but thanks to the work of Cancer Research UK more people like me can be treated.”

As part of the Cancer Research UK campaign, which has the backing of celebrities including Gwyneth Paltrow, Alan Carr and Kylie Minogue, wristbands costing £1 and other items are being sold to try and raise money.

The items are available from the Cancer Research UK store in Grantham High Street and TK Maxx.

Paul Wadsworth from the charity said: “We are calling on everyone in the East Midlands to unite with people across the UK and stand up to this terrible disease. We are entering a ‘golden age’ of cancer research and every pound we raise takes us a step closer to achieving our goal to beat this disease. By boosting funding right now, the best research teams will be able to develop new treatments, bring cures faster and save more lives.”
