A musical evening arranged as a surprise for a dad with terminal cancer has raised £1,661 for Macmillan Cancer Support and the British Heart Foundation.

Chris Shaw and a cousin arranged the evening for his dad Keith who was diagnosed with cancer last year. The event took place at Grantham College and featured acts including DJ Ricky Gee, Aimi Virden, Terry Carey, Dave and Angie Virden, Dominic Brister, DnR and Simon Shaw who gave their time free of charge.

Chris said: “My dad was a little overwhelmed with it and was quite emotional at times. The acts were fantastic and we thank them from the bottom of our hearts for their support and time. The staff at the college were excellent too.

“We raised a combined total of £1661.02 from ticket sales, raffle and donations. A huge thanks to everyone for the generosity and support including the Grantham Journal.

“My Dad had been diagnosed with terminal lung cancer in autumn last year. He has done so well having chemo despite knowing the inevitable and has been an inspiration to my sister and I. We decided to organise a get together with some of his old friends for him and it grew into what was a fantastic evening raising money.” some worthy charities.”
