Suspended jail sentence for theft and possession for Grantham man

Stealing from shops and possessing drugs landed a 34-year-old man with a suspended prison sentence.

Christopher Jones, of Shakespeare Avenue in Grantham, admitted stealing a heart monitor from Asda pharmacy, stealing a bicycle belonging to an Asda customer and stealing a pair of trainers from TK Maxx. All of the items were recovered.

He also admitted possession of cannabis and breaching a conditional discharge.

Jones, sporting bright pink hair, was said to be “genuinely apologetic about his crimes”.

Rob Arthur, defending, said Jones has an issue with a “potential blood clot on the brain which can result in seizures and fits”.

Jones appeared to take a turn for the worst during sentencing and was allowed to take a seat as chair of magistrates Ian McDonnell concluded the case.

Jones was sentenced to nine weeks in custody for possession of cannabis and 12 weeks in custody for each of the theft matters to run concurrently.

The sentence was suspended for 12 months.

Jones was also made subject to a 12-month supervision requirement and must pay a surcharge of £80.

Magistrates also ordered the forfeiture and destruction of the cannabis.
