Manthorpe Road crash on Sunday, August 3.

Two road collisions have taken place over two days on the same stretch of road in Grantham.

Yesterday at 8.16am a crash between a scrap lorry and a Honda took place on Manthorpe Road just outside Grantham hospital.

Police report that the lorry hit the side of the car which span and ended up in bushes.

Two fire crews from Grantham arrived at 8.19am and removed the roof of the Honda using hydraulic cutting gear to release the female driver who was taken to Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham with suspected neck injuries, although these are not belived to be life-threatening.

The road was reopened by 9.22am.

Yesterday’s incident follows a two-car collision on Sunday at 4.30pm also near to the entrance of Grantham hospital which closed Manthorpe Road in Grantham for several hours.

A 44-year-old Grantham woman, who was driving a Saab 93, gave a positive breath test and was arrested.

The female driver of the other car, a Ford Focus, suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital. Fire crews had to cut off the roof to release her, and worked with police to deal with a petrol leak.

Anybody with information about either of the collisions should call Lincolnshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 347 of August 3 or incident number 76 of August 4.
