Two dead following high-speed crash on A1 south of Grantham
TWO people died in a high-speed collision on the A1 south of Colsterworth yesterday (Sunday).
Six people, including a child, were injured in the crash, which happened at about 4.25pm on the southbound carriageway.
Emergency services worked to free four casualties trapped with life-threatening injuries. The remaining severely injured patients were stabilised and prioritised before being transferred to Nottingham’s Queen’s Medical Centre and hospitals in Coventry and Peterborough via air ambulance and road crews with the voluntary doctors providing medical escort.
LIVES and doctors from the East Midlands Immediate Care Scheme and BASICS were called to assist the ambulance and air crews on the scene. In addition, an RAF crew which was returning to base stopped to help.
A spokesman for LIVES said: “The BASICS doctors worked with rescue crews to emergency extricate, assess and deliver high quality life-saving treatment to the casualties on scene. Unfortunately, two patients died of their injuries on scene despite the best efforts of the doctors and paramedics.”
