UPDATE: Hope fades as the search continues for Grantham boy Pierre Barnes

Grantham schoolboy Pierre Barnes is still missing, as the search enters its fourth day.

Pierre, a King’s School pupil, went missing on the small island of Porquerolles in the south of France on Saturday.

The 12-year-old had gone out alone on a bike ride just hours after he and his family, of Barrowby Road in Grantham, arrived for their week-long holiday.

Search teams found his bicycle with derailed chain and one of his shoes on a coastal path on Sunday morning.

Pierre’s father Stephen Barnes, 57, has been speaking to media in France, where the family remain hoping for good news.

He has admitted hopes of finding his son are fading as time goes by. Although the weather was calm when Pierre headed off on his bike ride, a storm arrived soon after.

A spokeswoman for the Foreign Office said: “We can confirm that a British national has been reported missing in France.

“We are in touch with the French authorities and we are providing consular assistance.”
