POLICE have formally identified the grandmother and six-year-old boy who drowned in a lake near Castle Bytham on Thursday evening.

Dawn Jean Mullany, 71, of Castle Bytham and her grandson Laurence Mullany Mills of Ketton, Rutland, tragically died together in the small picturesque village of Holywell last week.

A post mortem examination has revealed that both the child and his grandmother died as a result of drowning.

An inquest will be opened and adjourned later this week by HM Coroner Gordon Ryall.

The inquest will likely be adjourned to allow time for the completion of police enquires.

However, Lincolnshire Police is not treating the deaths as suspicious, believing them to be a “tragic accident”.
