VIDEO: Giddy-up Grantham! Hercules the Carnival horse is in town

Waiting for Video...

If you were in the town centre today between 1.30pm and 2.30pm you may have seen a rather surprising sight.

A Shire horse named Hercules was outside the Guildhall ahead of his leading role in tomorrow’s Carnival parade.

The eight-year-old stallion measuring 17.1 hands, has travelled all the way from Hurst Green Shires stables in Kent with owners Jacquie and Chris Gardiner.

They were welcomed by Mayor Ian Selby, who is an exprienced horse-rider and showjumper and will ride Hercules at the front of tomorrow’s parade.

Mayor Selby said: “I’m absolutely delighted to welcome Hercules - he is going to be the star of the parade tomorrow. I also want to thank Arena UK who have kindly arranged to keep him overnight at their Allington stables free of charge.”

The Carnival parade starts at noon tomorrow from Market Place, and will go down the High Street, St Catherine’s Road, Sandon Road and Hill Avenue before entering Wyndham Park.
