The new town crier of Grantham was revealed on Saturday when Nobby Clark took to the steps of the Guildhall to give his first message.
Mr Clark, 66, then rang his bell and spoke again in the Market Place, the Isaac Newton Centre and at the Grantham Town match at The Meres where the Mayor did the ice bucket challenge. A former Sergeant Major in the Army Cadets, Mr Clark is well voiced in the art of sending out a message. He said: “The reception we got was very good. It’s an old tradition and the feeling I got was that there was no animosity. People were in good spirits.”
Coun Selby said: “We got a great reception when we went round and about. Nobby is clearly the right man for the job!”
Mr Clark said he would be interested to hear if any local organisations are interested in his services as town crier. Anybody interested should call the Mayor’s Parlour on 01476 566841.
