Here’s a look at what’s been happening in the villages around Grantham this week.
** Gardeners’ show, Barrowby
Barrowby Gardeners Association will hold their annual Vegetable and Flower Show on Saturday, August 30, as part of the third Scarecrow Festival weekend.
After last year’s highly successful show, new chair, Juliette Hurrell, is hoping for a record number of entries. The association is keen to encourage new entrants, not only from local residents, but also from other allotment societies, gardening and flower arranging association in the Grantham area.

Entries will be accepted from 9am to 12.30pm and judging starts at 12.30pm. Viewing is from 1.30pm and an auction of donated produce will begin at 3pm. Tea and coffee willbe provided.
** Annual show, Buckminster and Sewstern
A Holy Communion service took place on Sunday in St John the Baptist Church, Buckminster.
On Sunday a Morning Prayer service will be held in Holy Trinity Church, Sewstern at 9.30am.
Church members and friends enjoyed a trip on the Rutland Belle on Saturday, followed by a picnic.
Tomorrow (Saturday) the Sewstern and District Annual Horticultural Show will be held. Entries should be delivered between 9am and 11.30am. Judging will commence at noon and the event is open to the public at 3.30pm. Trophies will be presented at 4.30pm. In the evening a bingo will be held at 7.30pm. On Wednesday DIY slimming is held in the playing field pavilion, Buckminster, from 6pm to 7.30pm; Zumba takes place in Sewstern Village Hall at 6.15pm.
** Fashion show, Denton
On Thursday a fashion show and sale will be held in St Andrew’s Church . Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start.
The show will include high street quality fashions at bargain prices for all sizes. Items can be purchased on thenight
Tickets are £5, available from PCC members or Jil Hiley on 01476 870501. Alternatively you can pay at the door. Proceeds will go to church funds.
On Saturday, September 6, Rhi Clark and Betty Elmer will present a Victorian Experience in St Andrew’s Church, 7pm for 7.30pm.

** Country market, Easton
Easton Walled Gardens will hold an Autumn Country Market in their grounds on Sunday, September 7 from 11am to 4pm.
There will be crafts, cakes, jewellery and gifts plus various demonstrations and live music. Entry is £6.75 adults, £2.75 children.
** Traditional fete, Eastwell
Tomorrow (Saturday) the 21st village fete will be held in the grounds of Eastwell Hall and St Michael and All Angels Church, from 11am to 5pm, to raise money for churc funds.
The traditional country fete will include acraft fair and street market, musical entertainment, Punch and Judy show, vintage tractors and vintage and classic cars, skittles, spinning and farrier demonstrations, children’s games, face painting, alpacas, and much more fun for all the family. There will also be cream teas, a barbecue, and sandwich bar.

** Fun day, Sproxton
Sproxton Fun Day will take place on Monday, August 25 at the cricket ground at noon.
Attractions include a dog show and agility tests, childrens races and games, live music, bouncy slide, face-painting, tombola, books, bottles and a raffle. There will also be a bar and barbecue.
