WALTON Girls’ High School is raising money for the Derbyshire Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance after it rescued a teacher’s grandfather.

Head of RE Carly McKeown started a fund-raising appeal at the school after the skilled medical team saved the life of John Brummitt following a road accident at Honnington last September.

She said: “Without the expertise of the medical team onboard the DLRAA, we could have lost my grandfather that day. I’m so grateful for what they did for him, and I’m determined to help keep this service available for others who will unfortunately need their help.”

Carly, her auntie Kerry Spurling and her friend Sally Macpherson, who are staff at Kesteven and Grantham Girls’ School, decided to run in an event called ‘The Beast’, a double or quit trail race which includes steep hills, water, mud and 32 obstacles usually tackled by animals of a four-legged variety.

The pupils have been following her lead by raising money with cake stalls, raffles and aerobics sessions. They have raised £1,800 so far. To dontate go to www.justgiving.com/kerrycarlyandsally-The-Beast
