A two-day arts festival showcasing a variety of art, music and film is to be held next month.
The festival is being organised by a group of seven young people from Grantham and will take place at the Guildhall Arts Centre on Wednesday and Thursday April 16 and 17.
In partnership with Lincolnshire One Venues Young People’s Programme, the young festival directors, who are aged from 15 to 17, are deciding every element of the event. This includes hiring professional artists, musicians and film makers to lead workshops and auditioning local musicians to perform at their ‘end of festival’ gig.
The group have also been involved with designing publicity posters, as well as spreading word of the festival online and via social media, such as Facebook, Twitter and blog posts.
Each of the group has a specific role and is responsible for all the work related to that position. Charlie Stewart is artistic director, Ashleigh Dean finance director, Sophie Stubbs artist liaison manager and Abbi Langridge the operations manager, while Fiona Standen, Melissa Grainger and Jess Mitchell form the marketing team.
The festival will include a workshop where participants create a music video in a day, a recording session for budding musicians, a jewellery making workshop and a screening of the film Monsters University, with the two-day event being brought to a conclusion by the concert on the final night featuring local bands,
Charlie Stewart said: “It is a great experience for us, which we have all enjoyed, and we’re looking forward to seeing all our hard work pay off.”
The festival takes place throughout the day on April 16 and 17.
